The Job Corps program is designed to assist young people who both need and can benefit from the comprehensive range of services provided in the residential setting of a Job Corps center. Enrollees are impoverished and unemployed young people who have volunteered for the program. About 90% of enrolles are residential while the remaining enrollees commute to the center daily for education and training. Each center has classrooms, dormitories, cafeterias, health services and recreational facilities. Enrollees are also provided allowances for personal expenditures. Currently Job Corps conducts training and education at three types of facilities:

CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CENTERS (CCCs) - 30 residential centers are located in national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and on other public lands owned and operated by the U.S. Departments of the Agriculture and Interior for the U.S. Department of Labor.

CONTRACT CENTERS - 82 residential and nonresidential centers for enrollees operated by major corporations and nonprofit organizations under contractual agreements with the U.S. Department of Labor, selected through open competition.

EXTENSION PROGRAMS - Offer advanced training and education at Job Corps centers, special training sites, and other locations such as community colleges under contract with unions and public and private institutions.
